Sunday Morning message: 6th June 2021 Sunday

We can receive the Holy Spirit in His fullness. There are certain conditions we need to satisfy in order to receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit. The following are God's requirements: 7 conditions to receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit:

  1. Repent,
  2. Be baptized in water
  3. Ask God
  4. Be thirsty
  5. Come to Jesus. He is the Baptizer
  6. Drink - receive within yourself
  7. Present your body as a Temple for the Holy Spirit and your members as instruments of righteousness.

REPENT AND BE BAPTISED:

Apostle Peter preached on the day of Pentecost. At the end of his message, Acts 2:37-38 gives the response of the people to his message: “When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do? " Peter replied, " Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the Name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit".

"You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" is the precious promise of God. The two conditions are clearly stated: (i) Repent (change your mind), (ii) Be baptized in the Name of the Father God and of the Son Jesus Christ and of the Holy Spirit.

Repentance is to turn sincerely from all sinfulness and rebellion and submit yourself to God and to His requirements. Be baptized" means be identified with Jesus Christ in His Death, Burial and Resurrection by immersion water Baptism. These are the basic primary requirements for receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit: You must repent from sin and turn to God, and you must be baptized in water by immersion water Baptism.

ASK GOD FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT: Jesus says: " And I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you: seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, it will be opened. "If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of fish? "Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him, a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! "(Luke 11:9-13).

Here is the simple and important condition: Jesus says the Father will give the Holy Spirit to His children if we ask Him for the Holy Spirit. Some namesake Christians say, "I don't need to ask for the Holy Spirit". That is not scriptural. Jesus said to His Disciples, "Your Father will give the Holy Spirit if you ask Him" .Jesus had to ask the Father to send the Holy Spirit. We need to ask God for the Holy Spirit. Ask, and it will be given to you.

BE THIRSTY, COME TO JESUS: In John 7:37-39, we have more simple conditions stated by our Lord Jesus: Be thirsty, Come, Drink. "On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out saying, "If anyone thirsts, let Him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water". But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, Whom those believing in Him should receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified".

Apostle John makes it very clear that these words of Jesus were talking about believers receiving the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, "If a man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink". These three practical requirements are simple:

  • you must be thirsty,
  • come to Jesus,
  • you must drink.
  • God does not force His blessings on people who feel they do not need them. Many people are not thirsty. Therefore, they never receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit. "Be thirsty” is an essential condition.

As a matter of fact, thirst is one of the strongest desires in the human body. All the inner organs in the human body need water. If you are really thirsty, all you want is a drink. If you are living in a desert, you will understand what it means to be thirsty. He does not bargain or talk or discuss; he just goes to where the water is. That is what Jesus was saying: you must be thirsty.

The second condition is to come to Jesus. He is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. If you want the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, you must come to Jesus Who baptizes you in the Holy Spirit.

    YOU MUST DRINK:

You must drink the water of the Holy Spirit. Drinking is something within you by a decision of your will and a physical response. Drinking alcohol is sin. There is nothing wrong in drinking clean water. It quenches your thirst, and refreshes and renews your health.

I remember one incident in my life: I was physically present in the Lake of Galilee in September 2011 in Israel. I saw the clean waters of the lake of Galilee: I went into the shallow waters and took the waters and drank plenty of it to my satisfaction. It refreshed, replenished and renewed me physically!

Your physical response is part of receiving the Holy Spirit. Thirsting, coming to Jesus, and drinking are all essential. Just being totally passive and saying, "Well, if God wants to do it, let him do it! " is not drinking. Drinking is actively receiving within you.

YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:

Man's body is destined to be the temple of God. He does not dwell nowadays in manmade temple building. He wants to dwell in God made Temple, our body. 1.Corinthians 6:19 says: " Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit Who is in you, Whom you have from God, and you are not your own? ".

This knowledge is very important. "Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit". The Holy Spirit is from God. He is in you. We are required to offer or yield the parts of our bodies as instruments for His service. This is our responsibility. Romans 6:13 states:

"And do not present your bodies as instruments of unrighteousness ( wickedness) to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God".

We have a responsibility to offer, yield or dedicate our various members of physical body to God's service. One member particularly needs God's control: the tongue. James says, " But no man can tame(or control) the tongue”.

We need to control all our members of our bodies, specially our tongues. When the Holy Spirit comes, He takes control of the tongue for God's glory. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, the utterance comes out of your mouth. You speak prophecy, praise, sing and speak in tongues. When you come to Jesus and drink, the final result will be an overflow out of your mouth. Jesus states this principle:" Out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water". This is the purpose of God.

GOD's REQUIREMENTS: The following are the seven conditions found in God's word for receiving the fullness of the Holy Spirit:

    1. Repent,
    2. Be baptized
    3. Ask God
    4. Be thirsty
    5. Come to Jesus
    6. Drink - receive within yourself
    7. Present your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit and your members as instruments of righteousness.

I want to help you by sharing a pattern prayer that includes all conditions:

"Lord Jesus, I am thirsty for the fullness of the Holy Spirit. I present my body to You as a temple and my members as instruments of righteousness, especially my tongue, the member I cannot tame. Father God, Fill me with Holy Spirit, I pray, and let Your Holy Spirit flow through my lips in rivers of praise and worship. In Jesus Holy Name I ask and pray. Amen. "

If you prayed this prayer aloud, the results are on the way. You are receiving the fullness of the Holy Spirit
